Across two film trilogies and one insanely-expensive streaming series, The Lord of the Rings has thoroughly established its place as one of the most beloved and recognizable franchises in Hollywood today. The works of J.R.R. Tolkien have always been praised as phenomenal works of fantasy literature, but the stories have taken on a whole new life when brought to the big (and small) screen. The trilogy of Lord of the Rings movies directed by Peter Jackson is considered to be one of the best trilogies ever put to film, and while the reactions to the Hobbit movies and Prime Video’s The Rings of Power were a bit more mixed, there’s no denying the immense audience they both had. Audiences are almost always excited by the promise of new Lord of the Rings content, which is why Warner Bros. and New Line are actively developing more films set in Middle-Earth.
