The first Guy Ritchie movie I ever watched was Snatch. I was probably too young for it (and to appreciate half of what was happening), but I knew I’d never seen anything like it because I couldn’t look away. There was something about the editing, the character names, the way every character name sounded like a bad joke, and the way every scene managed to be chaotic and controlled at the same time. I went back and rewatched Lock, Stock last week, and by the time I finished that one, I understood something important: Guy Ritchie’s style is so specific that his imitators (and there are many) can never get even within touching distance of it.
