Survival thrillers have long been an interesting concept for feature films, putting characters in situations that create plenty of tension and thrills but can also require some suspension of disbelief. Hyperrealistic survival movies also push characters to the limits of human endurance as they fight to survive while trying to stay grounded in reality. Some of the most prominent examples include 127 Hours, directed by Danny Boyle, and The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, both based on true stories. However, the latest movie in that genre, set to release later in October and co-starring Josh Brolin, is fictional, albeit as grounded in science as it can be.
