Making a successful TV spin-off is harder than it looks. Audiences are already familiar with the world; they have their favorite characters, and every new series is judged against the original. That's especially true in Taylor Sheridan's TV universe, where Yellowstone set a brutal standard against which every spin-off is measured. While Marshals could have coasted on that inheritance alone, it chose to carve out its own identity as part procedural series, part family drama, and part character study.
