Wuthering Heights, a loose adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 novel about toxic love and lust on the English moors, opened in 3,682 North American theaters this weekend, and is projected to earn $40 million through President's Day on Monday, according to Variety. That's slightly softer than expected, but the movie is making up for it by beating expectations overseas, where it's taking in $42 million from 76 territories. All together, that should bring its haul to $82 million, which means Wuthering Heights will earn back its budget of $80 million and then some in its first weekend.
