This Masterpiece Should've Been David Fincher's 'Silence of the Lambs'

After wanting nothing to do with Hollywood following what turmoil he went through while directing Alien 3, David Fincher's resolve was rejuvenated with 1995's Se7en, one of the best of its genre. The movie hit the industry like a gut-punch thanks to Fincher's unflinching visual style, Andrew Kevin Walker's taut and clever screenplay, and its stellar central performances. As the movie approaches a big 30th anniversary milestone, it's interesting to examine why Se7en didn't receive the same awards-season praise that another serial killer thriller did just four years earlier.
