The horror genre has a way of building up iconic screen villains unlike any other. While superhero series have their baddies, these are usually driven by some grander objective, whereas the majority of horror villains exist solely to cause chaos for ordinary people. Franchises have acted as an ideal way to establish the legacy of many a killer and monster, going back to 1931 when Frankenstein's monster first appeared in Frankenstein, followed by Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943).
